You can use the Conga Template Builder to quickly build a template for a solution. For more information, see The Template Builder.

You may want to start with a template from our Template Library.

To access the Template Builder

  1. Launch Conga Composer from a Composer button (or from a Solution Record).
  2. In the Conga Composer window that opens, click Tools & Settings → Template Builder.

Conga Composer loads the datasets from the master object, including any data you created using reports and queries.

Template Builder

The left side of the Template Builder lists mail merge field names from Salesforce as well as sample data. To use these fields to create a template:

  1. In the Copy Field Format area, select the document type for the template (i.e. Word, PPTX, Excel, etc.).
  2. In the Options area, select or clear the Include Label box to include or ignore the field label as merge fields are copied into the template region. For example, with Include Label selected, you will get: Account Name: {{ACCOUNT_NAME}}. Without Include Label selected, you will just get the merge field: {{ACCOUNT_NAME}].
  3. In the left pane of the Template Builder, locate and double-click a field to add it to the right pane. Optionally, you can click the field name and then click the right arrow to add it.
  4. Repeat the previous step to add additional fields.
  5. When all the merge fields you want to add to your template are in the right pane of the Template Builder, you can either copy and paste or drag and drop those merge fields into your template.
  6. Save the template locally and perform a test merge with it.

You can also select a field, copy it, and paste it directly into your document template rather than adding merge fields to the right pane of the Template Builder. With this method, you can only add merge fields one at a time.

After a test merge, you will likely need to format date and number fields. See Formatting merge fields with picture switches for more information.
