Using Composer with Salesforce Shield Encryption

Conga Composer users can successfully merge data in Salesforce orgs with Salesforce Shield Encryption enabled. To merge fields encrypted with Salesforce Shield Encryption, create a new View Encrypted Data Permission Set and assign it to user, or assign the View Encrypted Data system permission to User Profiles.

The recommended method is to create and assign a Permission Set with the View Encrypted Data permission enabled.

Create and Assign a View Encrypted Data Permission Set

  1. Navigate to Salesforce Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find search box, type in Permission Sets.
  3. Click Permission Sets.
  4. Click New to create a new Permission Set
  5. Name the Label View Encrypted Data and the API Name View_Encrypted_Data.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Under the System Permission section, click System Permissions.
  8. Click Edit.
  9. Check the View Encrypted Data checkbox
  10. Click Save.
  11. Click Manage Assignments.
  12. Click Add Assignments.
  13. Select all users that need to merge encrypted data with the checkbox field.
  14. Click Assign.


Assign the View Encrypted Data Permission

You can only assign the View Encrypted Data permission to a custom profile.


  1. Navigate to Salesforce Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find search box, type in Profiles
  3. Click Profiles.
  4. Select the User Profile that needs to merge encrypted data.
  5. Click System Permissions.
  6. Click Edit.
  7. Check the View Encrypted Data checkbox.
  8. Click Save.
