Data Extraction Setup

Discovery AI uses mappings to extract provisions from uploaded documents. For Discovery AI to do this, you must define the types of documents you expect it to receive. For example, you might define a master service agreement, a non-disclosure agreement, or a construction quitclaim. For each agreement type, you must map the provisions you anticipate in the agreement for extraction.

Provisions can be fields, clauses, tables, or obligations. A field contains some measurable, normal property: a date, a percentage, a duration, or a cash value. Clauses do not have a measurable characteristic; for example, a stipulation, an indemnification clause, a jurisdiction clause, or a representation of fact. Tables present values in rows, also called line items, which present values in columns. The column defines the type of data, and the row contains the value. It may be useful to consider a table as an array of fields. Discovery AI can extract information from either vertically or horizontally aligned fields. Obligations are deliverable requirements in the contract, the thing exchanged for consideration. Obligations can be materials or services that must be delivered, usually by an enforceable date. Access provision models through the Data Extraction Setup tab in the left navigation bar. Manage provision models using the Provision Library.

When built-in provision models do not meet your needs, you can create and train your own custom provision models to provide bespoke extraction solutions. Data Extraction Mappings

Built-In Provision Models

Discovery AI extracts these fundamental provision models (if possible) from all contracts it reviews:

  • Agreement Title
  • Parties
  • Effective Date
  • Commencement Date
  • Original Expiration Date
  • Termination Notice
  • Renewal Type
  • Renewal Period
  • Renewal Notice
  • Renewal Limit
  • Signatures
  • Notice
  • Notice Address
  • Related Master Agreement Name
  • Total Contract Value

These are required because without these provisions a contract is not effective, and they are available for every intelligent document extraction.

You can select from the following common built-in provision models as your needs dictate:

  • Audit Rights
  • Pricing/Billing Frequency
  • Data Security Breach Notification
  • Dispute Resolution
  • Exclusivity/Not granted
  • Exclusivity/Required
  • Governing Law
  • Indemnification Provision
  • Non-Solicitation Period
  • Pricing/Payment Model
  • Pricing/Payment Terms

Additionally, you can pick specialized terms from our library of over 2,500 provision models for extraction. These are specialized for several industries and improve the granularity and specificity of your extractions. These stock provision models are pre-trained and do not learn from continuous training or user feedback.

Note:

Not all provision models are available for attorney review with Verified Extraction. If you need Verified Extraction, you must negotiate the projected provision model set with your Conga account executive.
