Creating a Price Dimension

Price Dimensions are an important concept to link any field into the pricing tables. Any field that will determine a pricing adjustment such as Quantity, Term, and more, needs a dimension created for it.
  1. Go to ADMIN SETUP > Pricing Administration > Price Dimensions. The Price Dimensions page is displayed.
  2. Click Create New. The New Dimension page is displayed.
  3. Select the Context Type drop-down, select a context type:

    Field Name

    Description

    Context Type

    (Mandatory)

Select the context type for the dimension from the following:

    • Line Item
    • Product Attribute
    • Custom
    • Asset Line Item
    • Related Line Item

If Context Type is Line Item/Asset Line Item/Related Line Item, it allows you to choose any field on the line item shopping cart. When you select this context type, the following fields are enabled:

    a. Field (Mandatory): Search and select a line item field.

    b. Cumulative Dimension: If you want to use a value from another dimension with the current dimension and use the resultant value as the final value, select a dimension name from the Cumulative Dimension drop-down. CPQ adds the value from another dimension to the value of the current dimension during evaluation. The cumulative dimension works only if line item field type is a number or currency.

    c. Relation Type : Select a relation type between the context type and the line item field. The supported value is Related Quantity.

If Context Type is Attribute, it allows you to select any product attribute that is associated to a product through an attribute group. When you select this context type, the following fields are enabled:

    a. Attribute Group (Mandatory) : Search and select an attribute group

    b. Attribute (Mandatory) : Select an attribute in the attribute group selected above.

    c. Type: Select one of the types of price dimensions.

If Context Type is Custom, it allows you to provide a dimension field manually for defining lookup fields using dot notation. When selecting this context type, the following fields are enabled:

    a. Field (Mandatory): Search and select a line item field. You can click Expression to define the logic that calculates the price dimension value for a line item.

    b. Type: Select one of the types of price dimensions.

  4. In the Price Dimension Name field, enter a name for the dimension. CPQ now supports wildcard entries ('*') for dimensions.
  5. In the Description field, enter a description for the price dimension.
  6. From the Type drop-down, select one of the following types of price dimensions:

    Type

    Description

    Standard

Select this for a standard price dimension.

    Quantity

Select this if the price dimension is based on quantity.

    Term

Select this if the price dimension is based on term.

    Amount

Select this if the price dimension is based on purchase amount.

    Equipment

Select this if the price dimension is based on equipment.
