Typical Architecture

The modeling and distribution process can be represented as follows:

Typically, we will find the following architecture:

One or multiple development environments

These environments are responsible to model different projects. Different development servers should work in different workspaces! Different development servers can exchange data using the “Manage Exports” and “Manage imports” processes.

One integration server

The goal of this integration server is to centralize all developments and to integrate them. On this integration server all developments are tested, finalized, and put together.

One preproduction server

On this server no development work is executed. This server will typically serve as a test server which has the exact image of the projects which are running in the production environment.

Multiple production servers

Typically, these are multiple nodes of a cluster supporting failover.

Best Practice: We recommend that you update or synchronize data (from external systems, for example) on an integration or pre-production environment that will publish data to the production:

environment. No data or meta-data updates should happen directly in production.
