Content
The “Structure” step is meant to add products to a collection and to organize that same collection. A collection can either be built “from scratch” or using products already existing in the repository or in other collections.
The “Structure” step allows you to:
- Organize the catalog using collections
- Viewing the content of the catalog
- Adding and removing products and services from the catalog
- Adding and removing labels that organize products inside the catalog
At the end of this step, you will have a completely organized collection of standard items, Configuration Processes and/or sales products for which you will be able to manage different types of information in the subsequent steps.

Once a specific product has been opened, the following information are available:
| FIELD | REQUIRED | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace | Yes, read-only | The virtual environment in which a product has been created. The workspace is fully determined by the workspace chosen in the dashboard. |
| Name | Yes, read-only | The identifier of the product. The length of the name is limited to 64 bytes. |
| Class | Yes, read-only | The class of the product. Indicates if the opened product is a standard item, a Configuration Process or a sales product. |
| Description | Yes | The description will functionally describe the product, and is limited to 4000 bytes. |
| Customize | No | This is a customizable field usable for purposes outside the control of the Designer. Limited to 4000 bytes. |
| Type | No | Allows assigning a user type to the product, which can be used as a classifier in order to segment exports, to specialize the user interface at run-time, or for other purposes. For more information about user types, please refer to Define object classifications. |
| Unit | No | Allows expressing the unit in which the product is sold. E.g. tissue can be sold by “linear meter” or by “square meter”. |
| FIELD | REQUIRED | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|---|
| Valid period | No | These “From” and “To” fields allow expressing the start and/or end date before or beyond which the Configuration Process is not valid. Both dates are optional. |
| Parent | No | The Sales Product which is the parent product. |
| Eligibility | Yes | Indicates if the current product can or cannot be added to the Quote from the Catalog UI. If a BRC is used, it returns a boolean value representing the availability of the Product + an additional optional business explanation. This BRC can take Settings or BP values of the currentItem as input aliases. It can also take some dynamic settings allowing one to check the price of the items to resolve the eligibility via a specific alias (e.g. CPE.mySI.PM/myPricing.Range[1].value). |
For Standard Items, the following additional fields are available:
| FIELD | REQUIRED | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|---|
| Business Information Grid | No | Allows attaching a Business Information Grid. Business Information Grids are structured tables, for which the columns have been defined by Business Properties, useful to generate technical data in the context of Manufacturing Processes only. |
| Subscription Product | No | Allows identifying a product from the Catalog as a subscription product. This allows defining a dedicated behavior when adding this type of product to the Quote. |
| FIELD | REQUIRED | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|---|
| Saved Configuration | No | This setting allows to store a saved Configurable Process built within the Product Configurator or the Fast Conf module in Smart CPQ. This fully or partially configured product can then be added to the quote directly. A configurationLink or a computationLink is necessary between this Standard Item (SI) and the corresponding Configuration Process (CP) or Bundle (CB). Example for a CP (same scenario for CB): A company sells laptops with various characteristics (Brand, CPU, memory, etc). Those laptops can be configured in Smart CPQ. A Distributor partnering with this company only sells laptops of Brand A, with 8-cores CPU. The Distributor would like to save clicks in the Configuration Process and always start with laptops of Brand A with 8-cores CPU. The way to do the setup of this scenario would consist in: The Distributor launches the Configuration Process, and select Brand A and 8-cores CPU in the corresponding Form Properties. The Distributor saves the Configuration Process thanks to the saveConf action. The CPQ Admin retrieves the saved configuration in the Manage File section of the Designer. The CPQ Admin creates a "Brand A 8-cores CPU Laptop" as a SI in the Catalog and associate the saved configuration in this "Saved Configuration" field The CPQ Admin creates a computationLink or configurationLink between this SI and the corresponding CP. The corresponding SI is now available to the Distributor in the Catalog. Adding it to the quote will either open a configuration process or add the result of the computation of that CP to the quote, both with Brand A and 8-cores CPU preselected. |
