Test Execution

Triggering Test Execution

You can trigger test suite execution using the Trigger Execution button in the Active tab. The result is listed in the Execution History tab and you can download the report in HTML and Excel format when you click on an Execution within the Execution History tab. An email report is also generated and sent to the recipients with the link that redirects you to the Execution History tab. Ensure that the email sender is not blocked.

While selecting the suite and the environment, ensure that if the test suite is using multiple users then the environment must have the same set of users.

Execution Type field has two options: Suite and Dynamic. When you choose the type Suite, all the test cases that are linked with the suite are executed. However if you want to execute only specific test cases from the suite, select the type Dynamic. A checkbox is displayed next to each test case in the table. Select the checkbox for the test cases that you want to execute.

You can associate a test management tool and a project on this page. This lets you save the test execution data in the test management tool for future reference.

Intergration of qTest Manager, which is a test management tool, is supported with Test Author.

  1. On the Test Author home page, click Test Execution in the right or left pane.
  2. In the Active tab click Trigger Execution and complete the following.

    Description

    Suite

    Select the already created test suite that you want to test.

    Execution Type

    Select an option between Suite and Dynamic.

    Test Management

    Toggle to add test management tool and project details.

    Test Management Tool

    Select a tool from the drop-down. qTest Manager is displayed if the integration is completed.

    Test Management Project

    Select a test management project from the drop-down. The projects within qTest Manager are displayed if the integration is completed.

    Environment

    Select the environment in which you want to test the test suite.

    Base URLs

    The base URLs that are part of the environment that you choose are displayed. This is a non-editable field.

    Client ID

    Enter the client ID.

    Client Secret

    Enter the password.

    User

    Select the user ID.

    Release Version

    Enter the release version.

    Report Recipient

    Enter the email ID to which the test result should be sent. Multiple email IDs must be separated by a comma.

    Description

    Enter a description if required.

    Test Cases

    Test cases mapped to the selected test suite are listed and only active test cases are executed. Use the search to locate a test case.

    If Suite type is selected then all the active test cases are executed.

    If Dynamic type is selected, then select the checkbox next to the test cases which you want to execute.

  3. Click Execute.
