Managing the Use Variable Panel

You can add the variables in the Use Variable panel. This panel allows you to add variable data or use the data values extracted from the previous test step in the current step. You must choose a variable source. Options are static, extracted variable, test data variable, and environment variable. Based on the variable source selection, you must select the variable name. For example, for the second test step if you select ExtractedVariable in the variable source, then you get options in the variable name based on the test step.

  1. For each test step, click the gear icon () in the Use Variable column.
  2. In the Headers tab select the destination field.
  3. Click the gear icon under Build Source Value and select the variable source and variable name from the drop-down list.
  4. Enter a value. This field is enabled only if you have selected Static in the Variable Source field.
  5. Click the plus () icon to add another variable.
  6. Click Save.
The expression is saved and displayed in the Source Value Expression column.
  7. Click the plus icon to add multiple variables.
  8. Similarly, complete steps 27 for each tab (Query Params, Path Params, and Request Body).
    1. In each tab, select the appropriate option from the drop-down in the Destination field. Note that for Request Body, you must click in the Destination field, then hover and click in the request body to use the JSON path in the Destination field.
    2. Complete steps 36 for the required destinations. Click Save.
