Refreshing Clauses in a Template
The Refresh Clauses functionality allows you to keep your contract template up to date. If the contract template contains clauses, and one clause has been changed but not published, this functionality can update the clause in the contract template in context. The clauses having any of the following changes will appear in the Refresh Clauses list:
- Change in clause attribute
- Addition, deletion, or modification in clause content
- Change in the smart, read-only or merge fields
You can refresh clauses in a template that include Smart and Read-Only fields within repeat sections, tables, and third-level repeat tables
Prerequisite
The clause is edited and checked-in.
Restriction
Clauses with repeat tables or repeat sections cannot be refreshed.

Behavior and Limitations
- When you Refresh Clauses, the default space inside a clause between two lines is removed. If you need additional space between the two lines, you must add space manually.
- When you Refresh Clauses, one line of space is added after the clause.
When you refresh a template, list formatting is applied based on the original clause format (Template or Clause) that you selected during the initial clause insertion. The original clause format is determined using a metadata property. If this metadata property is missing, then the system defaults to Template formatting.
