Performing Selective Migration

Make sure you have:

  • Migration Manager admin privileges (MigrationUser permission group).
Note: If the MigrationUser permission group is not available, create it using the exact name.
  • Modify All permission to the required objects in the target organization.
  • Access to both the Source and Target organizations.
  • Valid User ID, Client ID, and Client Secret for each organization.
  • Reviewed key considerations.

Use selective migration when you want to move only specific components, such as schema, data, configurations, or extensibility items, between two organizations. This option gives you control over what to migrate instead of transferring everything.

Important: Components with dependencies will automatically include required related components to ensure data integrity.
  1. From the Home page, click the up-down arrow () icon next to your username at the bottom of the left panel and click the Go to Administration option.
  2. Expand the Organization and click Migration.
  3. Click Launch Migration Manager.
  4. Select organizations:
    1. The system automatically selects the source organization based on your login.
    2. The system also auto-populates the user ID for the source.
    3. Enter the Client ID and Client Secret for the source organization. For more information on how to generate the client ID and secret, see Configuring an API-to-API Connection.
    4. Select the Target Organization.
      Note:

Only organizations associated with the same account appear for selection.

    5. Enter the User ID, Client ID, Client Secret for the target organization. For more information on how to generate the client ID and Secret, see Configuring an API-to-API Connection.
  5. Click Validate & Save.

You only need to validate once for each source-target pair.

  6. Go to the Selection Migration tile and click Configure Selective Migration.
  7. Configure component selection.
The selective migration interface provides four main tabs for component selection:
    • Schema Tab: Select database objects and fields.
    • Data Tab: Select data objects with optional filtering criteria.
    • Configuration Tab: Select settings, workflows, approval rules, permissions, integrations, etc.
    • Extensibility Tab: Select custom code, custom API, services hooks, callbacks, workflows, reports & dashboards, or automation scripts.
  8. Select Schema components.

Use the Schema tab to select database objects and fields that have changes between the source and target organizations.

    1. Review the comparison summary showing added, modified, and removed items.
    2. Optional: Use the search field to find specific schema objects by name.
    3. Optional: Apply category filter to narrow results by object type.
    4. Check the checkbox next to each schema object you want to migrate. Items with a Modified badge contain field-level changes.
    5. Expand modified objects to view field-level changes.
    6. Select individual fields within an object by checking the field-level check boxes.
Note: Fields marked as Removed cannot be selected as they no longer exist in the target organization.
    7. Optional: Click Select All to select all available schema objects.
    8. Optional: Click Download Report to export the schema comparison data
Selected schema objects are highlighted with a blue check mark. The component count updates in the sidebar summary.
  9. Select Data objects.

Use the Data tab to select which data objects (records from the objects) to migrate and optionally apply filtering criteria to transfer only specific records.

    1. Browse available data objects or use the search field to find specific objects. You can also use the category filter to narrow results by category (CPQ, CLM, etc.).
    2. Check the check box next to each data object you want to migrate.
Note: Dependent data objects are automatically selected with Auto Included badge. These objects are mandatory for a successful migration and cannot be deselect with the Data tab.
    3. Optional: Use the criteria builder to select only records you want to migrate. Click Advanced Filter on the selected object to expand the filter options. Choose whether records must Match All conditions or Match Any condition. Then click Add Filter Rule and select either Add Rule to define a single condition by choosing the Field, Operator, and Value, or Add Group to group multiple conditions together using All or Any logic. Then click Apply Filter.
    4. Optional: Click Select All to migrate all data objects with or without applied filters.
Attention: Selecting all data objects disables individual selection. Clear the Select All checkbox to customize your selection.
Selected data objects are highlighted with a blue check mark. The component count updates in the sidebar summary.
  10. Select Configuration components.

Use the Configuration tab to select settings, workflows, approval rules, permissions, integrations, etc.

    1. Review the comparison summary showing added, modified, and removed items.
    2. Optional: Use the search field to find specific configuration items by name.
    3. Optional: Apply category filters to view specific configuration types.
    4. Check the checkbox next to each configuration item you want to migrate. Items with a Modified badge contain field-level changes.
    5. Expand modified configuration items to view specific setting-level changes.
    6. Select individual configuration settings by checking the setting-level check boxes.
Note: Configuration items marked as Removed cannot be selected.
    7. Optional: Click Select All to select all available configuration items
Selected configuration items are highlighted with a blue check mark. The configuration count updates in the sidebar summary.
  11. Select Extensibility components.

Use the Extensibility tab to select custom code, dashboards, translations, workflows, etc.

    1. Use the search field to find specific components by name.
    2. Check the checkbox next to each extensibility component you want to migrate.
    3. Optional: Click Select All to select all extensibility components.
Selected extensibility components are highlighted with a blue check mark. The extensibility count updates in the sidebar summary.
  12. Review the selection summary. The summary displays a real-time summary of your selections across all four categories.
  13. Review Migration Configuration.

Before starting the migration, review all selected components and dependencies.

    1. Click Review Selection.
    2. Review each tab in the migration review interface.
    3. Expand any data object to view detailed filter criteria and dependency information.
    4. Optional: Remove auto-included dependencies by clicking the Remove button next to related objects.
Important: Removing required dependencies may cause migration failures or data integrity issues.
    5. Optional: Click Edit Selection to go back and adjust the selections.
  14. If review looks correct, click Start Selective Migration.

The system starts migrating the selected components from the source organization to the target organization. You are redirected to the Migration Details page where you can track the migration progress, review logs, and view the overall status.

  • If the migration completes successfully, verify the migrated components in the target organization and test functionality to ensure migrated configurations work as expected.
  • If the migration status is queued because of another ongoing migration, a message displays: Your migration has been added to the queue and will start shortly. The system is currently processing other migrations. No user action is needed, as the migration will commence automatically once resources are free.
  • If the migration cannot start due to insufficient permissions, a error message displays: The migration could not be started due to an error. Please review the error message below and try again. You can download the failed migration report, review the error logs, fix the issues, and rerun the migration if necessary. For more information on how to download the failed migration report, see Downloading Failed Migration Report.
  • To migrate additional components, repeat the selective migration steps.
