The following features in PowerPoint are not supported:

General

  • It is recommended to close the PowerPoint template before “local” merging.

    • Leaving the template open in PowerPoint during a “local” merge operation can sometimes produce unusual results in the output file.

  • RichText and Image fields when using dot notation or formal style merge fields.

  • Field types do not produce the desired result if the style of merge field is like the following example: {{HTML:QueryName.FieldName}} or {{Image:QueryName.FieldName}}

  • RichText fields are limited to using only one line break. If two or more line breaks are required in your merge field, it is recommended to either use a Text field, or utilize a Word template instead.

Tables

  • PowerPoint tables do not accept an image in-line with text, however Conga can insert an image as a cell background.

Text Boxes and Shapes

  • SmartArt (PowerPoint’s tool to create charts and process flows) is not currently available in a programmatic fashion.
  • When merging data that contains new line characters, it is recommended to use a single font for the entire text box or shape.

IF Statements

  • If statements are only functional in Microsoft Word templates when using Conga Composer.

    • PowerPoint does not have this functionality. A workaround is to create an IF formula field in Salesforce.

  • PowerPoint cannot perform calculations such as like =SUM(ABOVE)).
    • A workaround is to use a formula field in Salesforce to perform calculations and merge the result into the table.

SOQL Queries

  • Nested SOQL Queries used to gather data are not supported in PowerPoint templates
