Named Ranges in Excel can be used to define blocks of data and create a single data point out of the block. This is especially useful when functions need to be calculated on an unknown number of rows of data.

Defining a Named Range in a Conga Composer Excel Merge Template

  1. In Excel, highlight the merge field cell and the cell above it.
  2. Overwrite the value in the Name box with whatever name you want to give this range, a simple name is best as this will be referenced later.

It is recommended to create Named Range(s) for the cell(s) where calculations are done so that data can be used in further calculations

The Named Range(s) can now be referenced directly within Excel formulas regardless of the number of rows of data added during the merge.
