This section describes the steps for inserting clauses into a template.
To insert a clause into a template
Open a template.
Click the Unlock () icon and select Acquire. For more information on locking a template, see Locking and Unlocking Template.
To avoid conflicts where two users edit the same template simultaneously, the system allows updating the template after locking (acquiring).
Go to the Data > Clauses tab, and click Insert Clause. The Clause Library lists all clauses.
Use the Searchbox to search for a clause by keyword. Press Enter to display a list of clauses.
Place the cursor in the section of the template where you want to insert a clause.
A clause can only be inserted before or after existing paragraph text or in any open space. It cannot be added within another clause.
Click a clause from the list to view the clause text and active version.
Select the clause from the Clause Library tab, click More()next to the clause name, and clickInsert as Text to insert the clause into your template as inline text. Alternatively, you can select Insert as Smart to add the clause as a smart clause. For more details about smart clauses, see Making Template Clauses Smart.
You see a success message on successfully inserting a clause. The clause enclosed within double curly braces is inserted into the template. The Clauses pane lists all the clauses present in your current template in the order they appear on the pages. Select a clause from the list to highlight it in the template document. The clause content is marked by a content control boundary in your template.
To delete a clause from a template
Open a template.
In the Templates pane, go to Data > Clauses.
The Clauses pane lists all the clauses present in your template. Select the clause from the list and click the More () icon adjacent to the clause name.
Click Delete. A confirmation window appears.
Click YES. A confirmation message appears.
You can also use the Backspace or Delete key on your keyboard to remove clauses.
Behavior and Recommendations
When you modify a clause in CLM org after inserting the clause in a template, the modified clause is not updated in the template. The latest clause is added to the agreement document when you generate the document. For more information about generating an agreement document, refer to the Conga CLM User Guide.
When adding two clauses with identical text but different formatting, the formatting of the newly added clause overrides that of the previous one.
When inserting clauses into a template, right-aligned or center-aligned formatting is not preserved.
