    Description

Promotion NameEnter a name for the promotion. This name is displayed along with the promotion information. For example, whenever you look-up the promotion information that is applicable to a specific product, the promotion name that you provided here is displayed.
Promotion CodeEnter the code that is used for applying promotion. This code is captured on the order or proposal line items when the promotion is applied to the line item. Marketing teams can use this code for marketing campaigns. When a promotion is not auto-applied, that is when the Auto Apply? is deactivated or off, you can use the promotion code to avail a promotional offer.
    Applied To

You can apply promotions on line item and on order levels. Select from the following options:

    1. Line Item: To apply a promotion on line item level. This line item is the primary object to which your promotion is applied.
    2. Summary Group: To apply promotion on the order level.

If you select 'Buy X Get X' promotion, only then can you choose between Line Item and Summary Group. For all other types of promotions, Line Item is the default selection.

PriorityEnter a number for the priority.
Effective DateDate from which the promotion is applicable. Cannot be blank. By default, it is set to current date (date when you create the promotion record) +1.
    Expiration Date

Date on which the promotion expires. Cannot be blank. Should be greater than the effective or the start date. By default, it is set to 1 year from the effective date.

    Is Active

Can be set to On or Off. Set it to On when you want a promotion to be applied and should be active for the criteria which you specify. Active flag on the promotions is set using a workflow linked to approvals similar to what you would do for any other custom object approval. For example, you can write a workflow rule to set the active status to true once the promotion is Approved (if approval is set up). Approvals set up would be similar to custom object approvals for any object.

    Auto Apply?

Can be set to On or Off. Set it to On when you want a promotion to be automatically applied when a promotion criterion is met. Set it to Off when you want to manually enter an Incentive Code to apply a promotion. If you want to create coupons along with the promotion, then set Auto Apply? to Off
Combine with Other Promotion?Enables you to combine the new promotion with an existing promotion.
    Cannot combine with these promotions

Enabled only if Combine With Other Promotions? is set to On.

You can select a list of promotions which should not be combined with the new promotion.

This is a generic grouping of the promotions for analyzing and tracking the promotions. You can select one or more promotion groups. The list of Promotion Groups needs to be defined separately in the Incentive Group object and should be active. Marketing managers can create reports and track the groups that are more successful than others and drive the business strategy accordingly.
