Data Extraction Mappings
Data extraction mappings are collections of worksheets, which are themselves collections of provision models for Discovery to apply to imported documents. Worksheets assign applicable rules for detecting fields, clauses, tables, insights, and obligations. Using these mappings, you can configure suites of worksheets to apply to imported contract documents you expect to import, by type.
Use case: An administrator at a healthcare software vendor needs to extract business associate agreements (BAAs), a contract type not covered in Discovery Agent’s default data extraction mappings. Rather than build the worksheet from scratch, the administrator opens the Data Extraction Setup page and looks for a similar agreement type, cloning it as a starting point. The administrator then adds provisions specific to the BAA agreement type, including a Data Breach Notification Period field and a Subcontractor Flow-Down obligation (already defined in the Provision Library) and removes provisions that don’t apply to this contract type. The admin saves the resulting worksheet as a new mapping for future BAA imports.
The same clone-and-adjust approach works for any new document type that’s a close cousin of an existing one, such as adding an amendment-specific mapping alongside its base agreement mapping.
Accessing Default Data Extraction Mappings
To help you learn and configure Discovery custom flows faster, Discovery includes default data extraction mappings in the base package.
Manually Configuring a New Data Extraction Mapping
If your organization uses custom provision models and has enabled X-Author on Salesforce, a data sync containing standard provisions and seed data (ID: 10ce17c4-ee2e-4351-8d1a-27c4e9e7877a) is already present for onboarding. In such cases, make sure the custom provision models are correctly mapped and included above the data sync configuration.
