Document and File Import
You can import DOCX and PDF files and folders for extraction according to import rules established by the administrator. You can upload from your local file system, SharePoint, or CLM.
Discovery can use AI to identify the document type of all imported documents. Depending on the configuration and options you select, Discovery can automatically categorize all documents, only those it has identified with confidence, or wait for your review and approval before processing.
Uploading a File or Folder
You can upload one or several documents, with Discovery able to categorize all imported documents and apply worksheets as directed or as required.
Your choices affect your uploads, not those of other users.
Use case: A reviewer at an equipment leasing company has a batch of 800 customer service agreements to import after an acquisition. All were generated using the acquired company’s standard template and are thus identical in type. Rather than triggering Discovery’s automatic document-type detection, the reviewer disables Auto Detect Document Type in the Import Documents window and manually selects the Standard Service Agreement worksheet and extraction type before uploading the folder. Because every file in the batch is of the same document type, applying this one manual selection to the whole folder lets Discovery skip categorization entirely and move straight to processing, saving time and eliminating the AI’s detection step (and its cost) 800 times.
For a mixed batch of unrelated document types, such as a due-diligence project that pulls contracts from multiple counterparties, automatic detection is the better choice, because it removes the need to categorize each file by hand.
Importing from Microsoft SharePoint
You have performed the one-time setup from Microsoft SharePoint to the Conga Platform described in Microsoft SharePoint Integration.
Use case: An administrator at a commercial real estate firm connects Discovery to the firm’s Microsoft SharePoint library so paralegals can import lease agreements directly instead of downloading and re-uploading them first. From the Admin Console, the administrator opens Document Delivery Integration, clicks Connect, and signs in with the firm’s SharePoint credentials, completing the Integration Wizard. Once the Integration Wizard is connected, any paralegal with import permissions can select SharePoint as the import source and pull lease agreements directly from the firm’s document libraries, eliminating a manual download and re-upload from every import.
If the firm later changes document management systems, the administrator can remove the integration from the same Actions menu.
Reprocessing a Bulk Upload
During bulk imports, some files may have errors or may hang in the processing state for more than 24 hours. Rather than having these issues spoil the entire upload, you can reprocess a bulk upload during upload, OCR, or verification.
Likewise, if you did not get the results you expected, you can resubmit a bulk import for processing in the expectation that the AI will be better trained to find all desired provisions.
Documents that have already been reviewed (Complete) or in approval stage (Ready for Approval) cannot be resubmitted for processing.
Import Reporting
The user uploading documents receives a daily emailed notice summarizing processed documents, with total number processed documents, and counts of successfully processed documents and documents that failed to process.
By default, documents being reprocessed are retried twice. On the second failure, the document is considered “stuck” and reported as a failure. A failure can be at any step in the upload process, up to provision extraction, that prevents the document from reaching the Ready for Review status.
Configuring Intelligent Document Detection
You can control the primary (default) worksheet for each detected document type.
Editing Import Settings
You can change the import settings used to extract a document.
- You have opened the Project Dashboard to the document view as described in Accessing the Project Dashboard Document View.
One or more files have been imported.
A worksheet has been assigned to the imported document (by either manual assignment or automatic document type detection).
