Associating Obligations with a Clause

Obligations get associated with contracts through clauses. Linking a clause and an obligation is necessary so that obligations are created for contract documents. You can link multiple clauses to an obligation in a single go. You can add obligations to standard clauses created from X-Author or CLM Web.
  • From a contract: By selecting the clause in the Clause Reference list while adding or editing an obligation in the contract. For more information, see

  • From a clause: By adding an obligation from the Obligation tab in a clause in the Clause Library.

This section explains how to add or edit an obligation from a clause.

  1. Go to the Clause Library.
    A list of clauses is displayed.
  2. Click on a Standard clause.
    Note: Obligations can be created for Standard clauses only.
  3. Click Edit link.
  4. Click Obligations
    Note: The Obligations tab is not displayed for Alternate clauses.
  5. If obligations are already added to the clause, they are displayed under the Obligations tab. click New Obligation to add another obligation. If no obligations are associated with clause yet, click Create New Obligation.
  6. Specify name, type, priority and description for the obligation. Enable the Is Active toggle button to ensure that this obligation is considered for fulfillment.
  7. Click Add.
The obligation is added to the clause. When this clause is added to a template and a contract document is generated using this template, the obligation is added to the contract document if you enabled the Active toggle button and obligation-related configurations are done in the contract template..
