Step Creation Conditions

In general, a new step starts when the step before it completes. It often makes sense to create additional conditions to determine when a step should start. For this, use step creation conditions. These are criteria that must equal True for the step to begin its creation.

Note: The following fields are supported in step creation conditions: Boolean, combobox, currency, double, email, integer, percent, phone, picklist, string, textarea, URL, MultiPicklist, and user lookup fields. Refer to Creating a Process Definition and Steps before creating step creation conditions.

To Add Step Creation Conditions

  1. Go to the step where you will add the condition.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Scroll down to Step Creation Conditions.
  4. Follow the + Add Creation Condition link.
  5. Configure the fields:
    • Object Select: Select the specified process object defined in the definition or the immediate parent to this step. This list is dynamically populated based on the process object and parent step.
    • Field Select: Select the field on which this step is dependent. This list is dynamically populated based on the object name chosen.
    • Operator: Define how the Field Name and Field Value fields are compared .
    • Field Value: Enter the field value or select Field Value from the drop-down list box, depending on which Field Name you select.
    • Data Type: Displays the data type of the selected field name. This field auto-populates.
      Note: The autonumber, date, datetime, geolocation, and time field types are not supported.
  6. Select the + Add Row link to add more criteria, if needed.
  7. Scroll up and click Save.
