Building the Bill of Material Structure
When first entering the ”BOM Structure” step and clicking on the root Manufacturing Process in the
« Explore structure » explorer, you will be able to specify (in the working area) the system properties of the Manufacturing Process:
| FIELD | REQUIRED | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace | Yes | The virtual environment in which a Manufacturing Process has been created. In many cases, only one workspace is to be used. The workspace is fully determined by the workspace chosen in the dashboard. |
| Class | Yes | The class is automatically set to “Manufacturing Process”. |
| Name | Yes | The identifier of the Manufacturing Process. The length of the name is limited to 64 bytes and is preferably readable. It is recommended to adopt a coding rule for names, e.g. have them start with a small letter and use a capital letter for every new word. Example: myManufacturingProcess |
| Description | Yes | The description will functionally describe the Manufacturing Process, and is limited to 4000 bytes. |
| Type | No | Allows assigning a user type to the Manufacturing Process, which can be used as a classifier in order to segment exports, or for other purposes. For more information about user types, please refer to Define object classifications. |
| Root | Yes | This is a flag which indicates if the Manufacturing Process is a root Manufacturing Process (= a project) or not. This flag, which is checked by default for a root Manufacturing Process, can be unchecked providing that you have the necessary “delete” access right for Manufacturing Processes. |
| Unit | No | Allows expressing the unit in which the product is expressed. E.g. tissue can be manufactured by “linear meter” or by “square meter”. |
| Valid Period | No | These “From” and “To” fields allow expressing the start and/or end date before or beyond which the Manufacturing Process is not valid. Both dates are optional. |
| Business Information Grid | No | Allows attaching a Business Information Grid. Business Information Grids are structured tables, for which the columns have been defined by Business Properties, useful to generate technical data for production purposes. |
| Codification | Yes | This flags expresses whether or not the Manufacturing Process requires a codification rule. Defaults to false. |
| Matching | Yes | This flag expresses whether or not the Manufacturing Process requires a matching rule. Defaults to false. |
| Start BRC | Yes | This BRC will be executed whenever the Manufacturing Process is reached during the bill of material generation. In order to continue bill of material generation, the start BRC needs to issue “true”. This feature is not currently available/supported |
| End BRC | Yes | This BRC will be executed whenever the Manufacturing Process treatment has been ended. This feature is not currently available/supported |
After having specified the system properties for the root Manufacturing Process, you will be able to:
- Adding node Manufacturing Processes
- Adding Standard Items
Adding a Manufacturing Process
In order to add a new node Manufacturing Process to the project structure, proceed as follows:
- [In the Explore Structure explorer]
- Select the icon of the Manufacturing Process inside which you would like to create a child Manufacturing Process.
- [In the menu toolbar]
- Click on the button “New Manufacturing Process“
- [Via the “popup window”]
- Choose “Create new”
- Enter a name and a description for the Manufacturing Process you would like to create. Hit “Add” or “Add & Open” in order to create the Manufacturing Process
- The node Manufacturing Process is created and added to the root Manufacturing Process tree.
- Choose “Create new”
- (Optionally) complete the system properties of the newly created Manufacturing Process
- [In the menu toolbar]
- Save
If you want to reuse an existing Manufacturing Process and embed it in the current product structure:
- [In the Explore Structure explorer]
- Select the icon of the Manufacturing Process inside which you would like to create a child Manufacturing Process.
- [In the menu toolbar]
- Click on the button “New Manufacturing Process“
- [Via the “popup window”]
- Choose “Reuse existing”
- Choose a workspace
- (optionally) Choose a user type
- Enter part of the Manufacturing Process name or description and choose it in the proposed list. Hit “Add” or “Add & Open” in order to create the Manufacturing Process
- The node Manufacturing Process is added to the Manufacturing Process tree.
- [Via the menu toolbar]
- Save.Note: Any modifications done on a reused form or Manufacturing Process will be available in every project they are used in.
- Save.
The following procedure enables you to copy-paste a node Manufacturing Process in the project structure:
- [In the explorer]
- In Structure, select the icon of the node Manufacturing Process you would like to copy
- OR
- In Filter Objects, look up the node Manufacturing Process you would like to copy and select its icon
- [In the menu toolbar]
- Execute the Copy function
- [In the explorer]
- In Structure, select the icon of the Manufacturing Process under or inside which you want to position the new Manufacturing Process.
- [In the menu toolbar]
- Execute the Paste function after having chosen inside or below (depending on your needs)
- [In the popup]
- Enter a name and a description
- Click on OK.
- [In the working section]
- (Optionally) complete the system properties of the newly created Manufacturing Process
- [In the menu toolbar]
- Execute the Save function
- When duplicating a node Manufacturing Process (using copy-paste), the following objects are duplicated:
- The Manufacturing Process itself
- The following objects are reused:
- The Manufacturing Process structure, including child Manufacturing Processes and Standard Items
- The Business Information Grid attached to the Manufacturing Process
- The BRC attached to the Manufacturing Process
- The following objects are not reused:
- Any BRC or BIG attached to the link between the Manufacturing Process being copied and its
parent Manufacturing Process.
- The codification method for the Manufacturing Process, if activated.
- The matching method for the Manufacturing Process, if activated.
- Any BRC or BIG attached to the link between the Manufacturing Process being copied and its
Whenever you create a node Manufacturing Process, its details can be updated in the working area:

Adding a Standard Item
Adding Standard Items is similar to adding child Manufacturing Processes. Please refer to Adding a Manufacturing Process.
