You can upload and download various types of Salesforce files and maintain their versions using X-Author for Excel. Files can be configured in an app using Content Version object. The fields configured in Display Map and Save Map are rendered and displayed in runtime as shown below.

All you need to do is add the following required fields to the Display Map, and—if you are uploading attachments—the Save Map, as part of the Content Version object.

  • Version Data
  • Title
  • Path On Client
  • File Type
  • File Extension

If any of these fields are not added, the system displays a validation message.

Downloaded files are located in %AppData%\Local\, where %AppData% is the location of the logged-in user's AppData directory in Windows (for example, C:\Users\bdwyer\AppData). You can upload files from anywhere on your workstation, though. To upload a file, you need to provide the full path to the document and the document name as shown in the above example.

In Salesforce, all the files are displayed in the Files tab.
