Conga Templates can be created by using the Template Builder or directly in the source application. You can also take advantage of the Template Library to select and customize a pre-formatted template. You should have the source application installed on your computer to create a template.
The Template Builder
As you use the Template Builder to identify the merge fields you want to add to a template, the Template Builder can create a new template document in the intended application (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Adobe Acrobat Pro).
HTML email templates can be created in the Conga Advanced Email Editor in the Conga Email Templates custom object. Often, fields are cut and pasted from Microsoft Word® or another text editor.
Source Application
You can also drag and drop merge fields directly from the Template Builder, copy and paste fields from the View Data Workbook, or type the merge field names directly into the document. Using the Template Builder or the View Data Workbook reduces the chance of errors in field naming.
When working in the source application, you should have a working knowledge and familiarity with the software; that level of detail is not covered here.
Template Library
The Conga Template Library contains several templates for common solutions set up using standard Salesforce® objects and fields. While most work as-is, at the least, you will likely want to change the company information and logo. For more information, see Conga Template Library for Composer Release 8
The Conga Template Manager
After you build your document template, you can store it in the Conga Template Manager to make it available for Conga applications.
The Conga Template Manager is a custom object that's included with the Conga Composer application. It's designed to house document templates for use in Conga Composer processes. The Conga Template Manager is the preferred storage location for Conga templates.
The benefits of using the Conga Template Manager include security, source control, ability to use the Master Field To Set operation on a per-template basis, and reduced need to update IDs in button URLs.
The Conga Email Template Manager
After you build your email template, you can store it in the Conga Email Template Manager to make it available for Conga applications.
The Conga Template Manager is a custom object, included with the Conga Composer application, and designed to house document templates for use in Conga Composer processes.
Template Groups
You can add group templates during run-time. To do so, you add a Template Group name in the Template Group field on the Conga Template Record for each template you want to add. Then use the TemplateGroup parameter to select which group of templates to show to your users in the Composer user interface.
The name you enter in the Template Group field must be identical for each template in the group.
Merge Template Storage Locations
After designing a template you may store your template in any of these locations:
The Conga Template Manager (for document templates)
The Conga Email Template Manager (for email templates)
The Salesforce template repository
Your local hard drive or network drive
Recommended for System Administrators during the building and testing phase. Do not use a colon in document file names.
