Marking Plain Text as Clauses in a Template
While creating a template, you may have a block of text that you may not want in the Clause Library, but in the context of a contract template (and later a contract), you would like to add the smartness property. Using the Mark Clause feature, you can add a smartness property to an inline text in the contract template. Any clause formed using this feature has the Smart Clause property turned on by default.
Best Practices
- Avoid marking a clause within another clause.
- Always select full paragraphs or multiple full paragraphs; avoid mixing partial and full paragraphs.
- Do not mark clauses if they contain smart fields.
- Marking a clause that starts or ends with a table as smart prevents it from being deleted.
To mark a clause in a template
A success message appears and the selected clause content in the template is enclosed within double curly braces. After marking the clause, you can go to Data > Clauses tab to confirm that the clause is now recognized in the document.
To unmark clause
- Open a template.
- Go to Data > Clauses. The Clauses pane lists all clauses in your template. Use the Search box to find a specific clause by keyword.
- Select the clause from the list, click the More (
) icon adjacent to the clause name, and click the Unmark option. A success message appears.
The smartness property of the clause is removed, and the double curly braces are taken out from the text content in the document.
