Splitting an Invoice by Lines

Invoice splitting by line items provides the flexibility to create multiple invoices from a single invoice by distributing selected line items across separate invoices. Use this procedure to split an existing approved invoice into multiple new invoices by manually assigning invoice line items to separate split groups. Splitting an invoice by lines gives you full control over which line items appear on each new invoice enabling better structuring of invoices as per the business need.
Note: You can split an invoice only when its status is Approved. The Split Invoice action is not available for invoices in any other status.
  1. From the invoice detail page, click Split Invoice.
The Split Invoice page is displayed.
  2. From the Split By drop-down, select Lines.
  3. In the Number of Splits field, enter how many splits you want to create for the invoice.
Note: Entering a value in this field creates the corresponding number of split group panels in the Invoice Line Items section below. Split group is a to-be invoice header post split.
  4. Optionally, select Auto Approve Split Invoices to auto-approve the split invoices on creation.
  5. Uncheck the Generate Invoice Lines Summary checkbox if you do not want the split invoice to have an invoice line summary.
    Note:

Generate Invoice Lines Summary checkbox is selected by default if the parent invoice already has an invoice line summary.

  6. Review the invoice line items in the Invoice Line Items section. This section displays all unassigned primary line items on the source invoice. Review the line items before assigning them to split groups.
  7. Optionally, modify the Invoice Header of the split group. For each split group created based on the Number of Splits value, the system displays an Invoice Header panel where you can configure Invoice Date, Payment Term, Bill To, and Location in the header details.
  8. Assign Line Items to Split Groups:
    Note:
    • Bundle options move with their bundle header line item. When you drag a bundle header line item into a split group, all associated bundle option line items are automatically moved to the same split group.
    • Any line items remaining in the Unassigned Primary Line Items panel after all split groups have been assigned are automatically consolidated into one a separate invoice at the time of processing.
    1. Select and drag the line item row into the Split 1 panel. The line item is removed from the Unassigned Primary Line Items panel and added to the Split 1 panel. The line item count badge on the Split 1 panel updates to reflect the number of assigned line items.
    2. Repeat this process for each line item you want to assign to Split 1.
    3. If you configured more than one split group, repeat Steps 1 and 2 for each subsequent split group — Split 2, Split 3, and so on.
  9. Optionally, click Add Another Split to add another split group and continue to add lines.
  10. Review the parameters and click Split Invoice.
After the split is complete, a confirmation message is displayed. You are taken to the source invoice details page where you can view the split invoices.
The source invoice is split into new invoices. The source invoice status is updated to Distributed and its invoice line items are set to Canceled. The sum of total fee amount of all split invoices matches the total fee amount of the source invoice.
