Use Case: Canceling Options in a Bundle Asset with Ramp Lines
This section describes how CPQ behaves when you cancel an option in a bundle asset that has ramp lines.
Business Scenario
A software company sells a subscription bundle that includes a core platform along with optional add-on services such as Advanced Analytics and Premium Support. After the customer has purchased and activated the bundle, their business requirements change. They would like to add Data Insights services and discontinue the Advanced Analytics add-on while keeping the core subscription active. Because the contract uses ramp pricing, where pricing or quantities change over multiple time periods, the sales team creates an asset amendment to cancel the existing option and add the new one. CPQ must correctly handle the cancellation, ensure that ramp schedules associated with the cancelled option are adjusted appropriately, and recalculate the bundle pricing without affecting the remaining active products.
In another scenario, a telecommunications provider offers a bundled service containing Internet, Voice, and Security packages with planned ramp increases over a three-year contract. During a midterm contract modification, the customer chooses to discontinue the Security package and add a newer service after ramp lines have already been established. When the option is cancelled, CPQ preserves the valid asset history, removes or updates future ramp lines as required, and automatically adjusts the bundle amount to reflect the revised subscription structure. This ensures accurate billing, asset lifecycle management, and contract compliance while allowing customers to evolve their service mix without requiring a completely new contract.
