Portal Model

Overview

The Collaboration Portal Data Model is used to define the structure of the collaboration portal microsite and the how the online quote will be displayed. The Portal Model is made up of a template selection and component sections that allow the user to configure the styling and page elements, as well as the list of columns, lines and fields, views and which data sources are used for the microsite (the online quote). Collaboration Portal Models are created for a given tenant.

The Collaboration Portal Model leverages the Quote Data Model and the Views, Component, and Session variables that are defined in the Quote Model. For more details on how to configure the Quote Model, refer to the Data Model help topics.

The Dashboard lists all collaboration portal models for this tenant. A collaboration portal is defined with a name and a status.

  • The Name is the identifier of the collaboration portal model. It must be unique for a tenant. This name is used by the CPQ application to identify which collaboration portal model is used to generate the quote microsite (the actual collaboration portal microsite that displays the quote view)
  • The Status defines the quote model status:
    • DRAFT - A draft version corresponds to a working version. This means that the collaboration portal model is being defined and not available at runtime.
    • ACTIVE - An active version corresponds to a version that is available at runtime.

The DESIGN settings page is where you can configure which Collaboration Portal Template is used and which Quote Model, Views, and Components are used to define the collaboration portal microsite - to show specific columns, and/or fields in the quote list view and the quote details summary module. The list of which columns are available for the quote list view and the quote details summary module is determined why which View and Component is selected from the Quote Model.

The different Views correspond to what has been configured in the Quote Model Designer application and what you want to see at runtime in the online quote - a selection of columns and/or fields to be displayed at runtime in the collaboration portal microsite.. Once a View as been created there, it can then be selected in the Data Model for the collaboration portal - then associated to the quote list view module to define the layout and ordering of the columns for display in the quote. In order for columns and/or fields to be displayed in the collaboration portal microsite, the Views and Component must be created and defined through the Quote Designer application in an active Quote Model. For more details on configuring the Views and Components, refer to this Quote Views help topic.

Activation Process

Once you have configured the Collaboration Portal Data Model and the Component sections for the microsite and are ready to test, you need to activate your draft.

Activating a DRAFT will allow you to use the collaboration portal through CPQ. The status of the model will be ACTIVE. You can activate a quote model from the Dashboard or during editing with the Activate button displayed in the top right corner.

Collaboration Portal validation

Only valid collaboration portal models can be activated. If there are errors in the portal model (displayed in the footer), you must fix them in order to activate the collaboration portal model.

If an active collaboration portal model already exists, the new active version will replace the previous one. The old version is stored as backup.

In order to ACTIVATE a collaboration portal model, you must enter an activation label. This label allows you to identify the version that is activated. In addition, a fingerprint will be generated in order to identify your collaboration portal model. This fingerprint is based on the collaboration portal model content. Two identical models deployed in different environments will have the same fingerprint.

The fingerprint is displayed on the Dashboard on ACTIVE collaboration portal models. This information can be also retrieved at runtime using the error inspector (under the "Global" tab)
