Dynamic Fields

Quote fields can be inserted dynamically into the Generated Document. To do so, the user will use the Add Tag function. Once added the tag can be edited in different ways.

How to Insert a Field

The insertion of the field is done at the cursor position or replaces any current word selection. The field can be placed anywhere in the document including the header and footer of the document.

To create a dynamic tag, the user must follow this process:

STEPDESCRIPTIONIMAGE
1Place the cursor in the Word document where the field should be inserted. In the add-in on the Home tab, click on the + next to the Tag menu.
2Select a field by browsing through the components of the Data Model using the Data tag autocomplete drop-down list. Useful Tip: Type text in the drop-down lists to filter the results.
3The user can rename the tag in the Tag field (except the fixed “#Type_ID_” section).
4Click on the ADD TAG button
5The tag appears in the word document. The add-in display the edit mode for the field.

How to Edit a Field

To edit a field the cursor must be positioned on the tag in the Word part of the document. In the add-in, the user must click on the edit button as below:

The edit field panel allows to modify field tag parameters:

  • Name

The user can edit the name of the tab (only the part after the second underscore) to ease its reading in the Word document side.

  • Datasource

The user can decide to choose another field by using the drop-down list of fields. In that case, the name will change and be auto-completed with the name of the chosen field.

  • Format

If the tag is a numerical or a date/time data type, the user can change the format of that specific tag overriding the default formatting set up at the document level in the Settings tab.

Important:

All tags are linked to meta-data in your document, so they must not be altered directly in the document at risk of breaking the consistency between the document’s content and its metadata. To edit a tag, place your cursor on it in the Word document, and always make the necessary edits

in the add-in.

Once the edits have been made the user must click on the button to save the changes. If the user needs to cancel and not save the changes they must click on

How to Delete a Field

To delete a field the user can :

  • delete the field tag on the Word document side.
  • click on the delete button in the Edit field panel

Limitations

  • Field tags (as any other tags) cannot be inserted in Word Text Box objects.
  • Field tags must not be followed by line break or page break.
