Searching Clauses in Mark Clause Menu

Using the Mark Clause menu, you can drag and a drop a block of text onto either clause Library node (root node) or drag it onto the playbook clause (with the option to replace the agreement text with the playbook text). A marked clause can be then be promoted to the Playbook for future use. The Mark Clause menu displays the list of clauses in an alphabetized ascending sequence from A to Z. Mark Clause menu has following features to help you in searching the desired clause faster:

  • The Mark Clause menu lists only those clauses which have the Record Type same as the Record Type of the agreement document currently opened in the X-Author Contracts.
  • The clauses listed in the Mark Clause menu, under Library are sorted in ascending alphabetical order, from A to Z.
  • The Mark Clause menu has search feature with a search box which searches per the search string entered by you. The search feature searches in the Clause Name, Keywords and clause Description fields.
  • The search string is not case sensitive.
  • The search feature also has an advanced filter which filters the clauses based on Category, Sub-category, Locale and Language.

Using the Search Box

To search clauses in the Mark Clause menu:

  1. Go to X-Author Contracts tab and click Mark Clause.
    This opens the Mark Clause menu in the right hand side of your Microsoft Word Document window.


  2. To search with a search string, type the search string in the search box on the top of the menu and click Go.
    • The search box shows result according to full or partial search string entered.
    • The search box does not accept special characters including *, |, :, ", ', <, >, ?, \, /.
    • You can also perform search with wild character %.

      Use Case

      If you want to search a clause or list of clauses which have the words Non and Clause in their name, you can use the wild character "%", in your search string.

      1. Go to Mark Clause menu.
      2. In the search box, type "Non%Clause" and click Go.
      3. The search result will show all the clauses with the words "Non" and "Clause" in their name


Using Clause Filters

The search feature of mark Clause menu has some pre-built filters to further refine your clause search. These filters are under the search box.

  • Advanced filters can refine the search based on following four type of pre-built filters:
    • Category,
    • Subcategory,
    • Language, and
    • Locale
  • The four advanced filter are all picklist fields and you can select the picklist values from the drop-down.
  • The search results are shown after logical AND operation of the search string in the search box and the values selected in the above four advanced filters.

Use Case

If you want to perform a complex search for a clause you can leverage the search box and the advanced filter to get a more accurate search result. if you want to search a clause in Spanish language, from Procurement category and having the word "Sales" in its title you can do it in the following manner:

  • In the search box type "Sales"
  • In the advanced filter Category field, select Procurement from the picklist and in the Language field, select Spanish from the picklist.
  • Click Go
  • The clause or clauses, fulfilling all the three conditions outlined above will be shown in search results.

Resetting Search

Reset clears out all the filter and search parameter including the search string and the advanced filter selection.

  • To reset all the search parameters click Reset in the Mark Clause menu.
