Introduction

Conga is committed to providing the highest quality products and services to our customers. As a technology developer and provider, we understand that technology evolution allows our customers to establish and maintain competitive advantages, achieve operational efficiencies, and provide superior customer service.

Mail Merge, Quick Merge, and Composer 7 (the first iteration of Conga Composer) hold a special place in the hearts of all of us. It was the original product that brought about the creation of our company and Conga Composer. As times change and other products are created, it is important for us to consider which products to continue supporting and which to make the tough decision to retire.

After many years of success in the market, we have decided to officially retire the Mail Merge and Quick Merge products, as well as Conga Composer version 7. As with any product end-of-life, this decision was thoroughly vetted and determined to be the best move forward for Conga, our customers, and our partners.

We’re now poised to officially retire our Composer 7 solutions and focus solely on Composer 8 and our future product line.

Who does this impact?

This impacts all the existing Conga Composer customers who are utilizing the Mail Merge & Quick Merge products (which is an add-on to Conga Composer), and Conga Composer 7 version.

Why have we made this decision?

Conga Composer 7: We are focusing our development efforts on enhancing the latest Composer version to improve the overall Conga experience when building document generation solutions.

Mail Merge: As of June 2021, it is no longer compatible with browser security introduced into Google Chrome v91 and Microsoft Edge. These browser security settings, which cannot be changed, make Mail Merge in its current form inoperable. We expect other browsers to quickly follow suit. A cost/benefit analysis of updating the product resulted in the decision to retire it.

Quick Merge: Quick Merge in Composer 7 has not been affected by browser updates, but because Composer 7 is being retired, it is no longer supported by Conga.

  • We’ve made this decision to focus our development efforts on the Composer 8 and Batch products and continue to deliver our best-in-class solutions cohesively.
  • The customers using Mail Merge & Quick Merge products can move to Global Merge in Composer 8 or use Batch as their use case requires it.

When are these products being retired?

Composer 7: Customers will no longer be able to use Conga Composer 7 and its associated products Mail Merge and Quick Merge on or after 1 August 2022.

Mail Merge: The product retirement is effective immediately. For customers already using Mail Merge, it is currently inoperable using Google Chrome v91 and Microsoft Edge. It will remain operable for customers using other browsers but the timing for when those browsers change (thus rendering it inoperable) is unknown and out of our control.

As of August 13, 2021, Mail Merge in Salesforce Classic works with Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers because they have not made the same security updates as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have made. Conga does not know how long those browsers will be useful as a workaround, but they will no longer be used on or after August 1, 2022.

What is the alternative? And What else may be different for you?

Global Merge or Batch on Composer 8 provides similar functionality to Mail Merge and Quick Merge. To ensure your success and business continuity, we suggest existing customers transition to Global Merge or Batch on Composer 8 solution as soon as possible.

While Conga Global Merge and Conga Batch do not have the same functionality as Mail Merge and Quick Merge, you will still be able to use them for the same use cases you use Mail Merge and Quick Merge for currently. You will need to use Salesforce reports or queries to identify the Salesforce fields to be merged into the document. Complete documentation for our Conga Composer and Conga Batch products exists on the Conga Documentation site.

For more information on how to choose between Conga Global Merge or Conga Batch as your document automation tool and which scenarios suit each tool, review the Global Merge or Conga Batch course.
