You can control the visibility of bounding boxes using the Hide Smart Boundary action in the X-Author Contracts tab.

Prerequisites

  • You must have Microsoft Office 2016 or later installed on your system.

Hide Smart Boundary button is disabled in the X-Author Contracts ribbon if your agreement's protection mode is: Read Only, Fill in Form Fields, or Insert Comments.

Smart fields and smart clauses in an agreement document are represented in Microsoft Word as a content control, with a bounding box that displays it as a smart element.

To hide smart boundaries in an agreement document

  1. Open Microsoft Word and connect to X-Author Contracts.
  2. Open or check out a document that contains smart fields or clauses.
  3. From the X-Author Contracts tab, click Hide Smart Boundary to toggle smart boundaries off. The button is highlighted in the tab and bounding boxes are no longer shown around smart elements.

  4. Click the button again to toggle smart boundaries on.

During contract negotiation, it may be necessary to insert clauses or make changes to smart elements. When boundaries are hidden in a document, they are automatically displayed if:

  • a field or clause is highlighted in the document body or Control Panel
  • a clause is inserted into the agreement document
  • a field or clause is marked in an agreement document

Smart elements remain automatically displayed in a generated document when a field/clause is marked. X-Author users still have the option to manually show/hide boundaries.
