Use Case: Creating a Shopping Cart Experience

Ensure that you have met the following prerequisites:

  • Conga CPQ is installed and configured in your Salesforce environment.
  • You have administrative permissions to configure products, price lists, constraint rules, and maintenance jobs.
  • Base price lists and currency settings are defined.

This use case provides an example of how to create a shopping cart experience. Your implementation may vary. For more about creating a shopping cart experience, see Creating a Shopping Cart Experience.

Business Context

To maximize sales efficiency and guide customer purchases, organizations require a structured catalog and shopping cart workflow. By organizing products into intuitive categories, enabling attribute-based search filtering, configuring automated cross-sell prompts, and applying seasonal promotions, sales representatives can quickly configure complex quotes while reducing configuration errors.

Actors

  • CPQ Administrator: Configures CPQ products, attributes, pricing logic, constraint rules, search parameters, and maintenance jobs.
  • Sales Representative: Navigates the shopping cart catalog, filters products, configures product options, and generates quotes.

Scenario

A sales administrator at a computer hardware company wants to set up a comprehensive shopping cart experience in Conga CPQ. The company sells hardware items including Laptops, Monitors, Keyboards, Mice, and Operating Systems. Products can be sold standalone or integrated into a "Desktop Computer" bundle. Additionally, attributes such as RAM and Operating System drive configuration options, cross-sell rules automatically suggest a Keyboard when a Monitor is selected, and a 10% holiday promotional discount applies to orders placed from October through December.

  1. Define products and services in the catalog.

Create standalone products (for example, 27-inch Monitor, Mechanical Keyboard, Wireless Mouse, and Windows 11 OS) and a parent bundle product (for example, Desktop Computer). Assign option products to appropriate option groups under the bundle.

  2. Configure product attributes and attribute groups.

Define product attributes such as RAM (4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB), Storage (512 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD), and Operating System. Associate these attribute groups with the Laptop and Desktop Computer products to allow custom configurations.

  3. Configure product pricing and price list items.

Assign base list prices for standalone items (for example, Monitor = $250, Keyboard = $50) and define component pricing or option price adjustments when items are added as options within the Desktop Computer bundle.

  4. Configure constraint rules for cross-sell recommendations.

Set up a recommendation constraint rule with the condition: Option = 27-inch Monitor. Configure the rule action to prompt the user to add Mechanical Keyboard to the cart.

  5. Configure promotional pricing and discount rules.

Create an incentive pricing rule that applies a 10% promotional discount to all computer hardware products. Set the effective date range from October 1 to December 31.

  6. Define search mechanisms based on product attributes.

Configure Catalog Search Filters based on product specifications (such as RAM size or screen resolution) to enable attribute-driven guided search in the catalog.

  7. Run maintenance jobs to apply changes.

Navigate to CPQ Admin and execute the following maintenance jobs to update the catalog cache:

    • Category Maintenance: Refreshes product category hierarchies.
    • Attribute Maintenance: Updates product attribute matrix data.
    • Criteria Maintenance: Updates search filter and rule evaluation criteria.

The shopping cart experience is fully configured. When a sales representative navigates to the CPQ catalog:

  • Products and bundles are organized logically by category.
  • Attribute filters enable quick selection based on technical specifications.
  • Selecting a Monitor automatically triggers a cross-sell suggestion for a Keyboard.
  • Qualifying orders placed between October and December automatically receive the 10% holiday discount.

Next Step

Open a quote or proposal cart as a sales representative to test catalog navigation, attribute options, cross-sell recommendations, and promotional discount calculations.
